Fifteen families with children aged 3-7 participated in a four-class cooking series at Children’s Home Society Family Success Center in Trenton this Spring! FCHS Educators Angela Alexander de Ramos and Odalis Macario taught the lessons in Spanish. Children were given their very own aprons and learned how to safely prepare snacks and meals with the help of their parents or caregivers. Families customized their own Fruit Parfaits, peeled and cut vegetables to make Harvest Soup, juiced lemons for their Chicken Caesar Salad dressing, and rolled Fruit Wraps using rice paper that magically softened in water. Children also enjoyed activities such as fruit and vegetable bingo and plenty of physical activity. Parents and caregivers exchanged ideas, such as encouraging picky eaters to eat healthy foods and getting the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables. Families loved cooking with each other and said they would cook together at home as a result of attending the class series!
