Last month, Ricardo Kairios, Family and Community Health Sciences Educator/Assistant Professor, had the honor of hosting a workshop at the 2025 International Affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Conference (IAAND) Virtual Conference on Participatory Action Research (PAR) and Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR). These powerful research approaches center community voices in the effort to build equitable, sustainable food systems.

Ricardo partnered with fellow members of the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior’s (SNEB) Division of Sustainable Food Systems (DSFS) to present a panel of international nutrition practitioners. The panel shared compelling case studies on how community-engaged research has been instrumental in making nutritious food more accessible, desirable, and sustainable. Participants engaged in a dynamic discussion, reflecting on how these research methods transform food systems worldwide. The workshop highlighted the vital role of participatory research in creating meaningful, community-driven change.
Ricardo is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this critical dialogue and looks forward to continuing his work with dedicated practitioners to advance equitable and sustainable food systems.
