Twin Rivers Head Start students are embracing healthy eating with the exciting “Husky Reads” program! Our nutrition educator, Cate, visits the preschool classroom in East Windsor to lead engaging, 30-minute lessons centered around MyPlate’s five food groups. Each session blends literacy with nutrition, featuring captivating book reading and movement-based activities that keep children active and learning.
Little ones eagerly explore new flavors during single food tastings, such as bananas, clementines, and baby carrots. Teachers report significant student engagement and improved retention of nutrition concepts. The program, funded by the USDA, is offered free of charge, ensuring all children have access to vital nutrition education. The smiles and enthusiasm from the children are a testament to the program’s success!
