Hey, Mercer County!
This March, Ricardo Kairios, Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) Educator/Assistant Professor, had the honor of participating in the “Thrive Together: A Women’s Journey to Wellness” Symposium, organized by the New Jersey Department of Corrections Office of Diversity and Wellness. Held in Ewing, NJ, this empowering event attracted over 120 participants and focused on supporting women in their wellness journeys to celebrate Women’s History Month.

Ricardo was joined by Yarisleida Garcia, a Rutgers Chemistry major and a scholar at the Rutgers Institute for Women’s Leadership, who has been interning with him throughout the Spring semester. Yarisleida hosted an informational table, providing valuable wellness resources to attendees. Together, Ricardo and Yarisleida led a workshop titled “Nourish Your Best Self: Decoding Nutrition Fact Labels for Balanced Wellness.” This session equipped participants with essential tools to understand nutrition labels better, empowering them to make healthier, more informed decisions about their food choices.
Participants also had access to various resources to support their wellness journeys, including helpful tools for meal planning, understanding nutrition, and exploring fresh, local foods.
