Many adults have difficulty doing what more than 300 Mercer County elementary school children did during the month of March—public speaking! 4-H partnered with 14 teachers throughout the Hamilton Township School District to provide instruction on public speaking—an essential skill that, when developed, is a tool that lasts a lifetime! More than 300 students participated in this two-part school enrichment program. During the first session, Sharon Gore, 4-H Educator, taught students about the different types of presentations: demonstrations, illustrated talks, and performing arts.

The students then selected topics ranging from how to extinguish a fire to Taylor Swift and how to clean your room for Ramadan. In the second session, students gave a 3-5 minute presentation about their chosen topic. Their classmates learned a lot about their hobbies and interests. At the conclusion of the presentations, each student received feedback on their presentations, a participation ribbon, and a certificate of recognition. Public Speaking is offered to fourth and fifth-graders each March as part of Mercer County 4-H’s School Enrichment Program.
