Can you name any of these African Americans? Or any African American inventions? Sharon Gore, 4-H Program Associate, addressed these questions with 1,112 Mercer County elementary school students during African American History Month this past February.

Sharon collaborated with 61 classrooms throughout the county to introduce students to famous African American inventors, pioneers who led the way for civil rights, and unsung heroes of the past and present. Sharon provided hands-on experiences through poetry, music, traditional chants, and hand-clapping songs. The classrooms were also provided the information and materials needed to make a keepsake African American History book, because history isn’t just a month-long study…it’s a lifelong journey!
