Last month, the newly formed Kitchen Crew 4-H Club hosted a surprise event for the moms of the club! 4-H projects like cooking are a point of engagement for youth and the caring adults that lead community clubs. This time, the youth were the ones who were in the position of caring! Adult volunteers facilitated as teen & tween members were fully responsible for making cucumber sandwiches, heirloom tomato salad, and chicken salad croissants for the event. Members then served the club moms and completed the meal with tea and desserts.
Planning and preparing for an event allows 4-H members to learn and practice valuable life skills like responsibility, timing, money management and follow through. These are tools that all people need to manage the situations of daily living. Having strong skills allows one to make sensible decisions and build a positive, fulfilling future.
