Ignite by 4-H is a teen event held in Washington, D.C., including four days of inspiring and engaging panels, respected speakers, workshop sessions, entertainment, and opportunities for amazing connections. The summit provides youth from across the country the chance to explore the best that 4-H offers in STEM, agriscience, healthy living, and career readiness. This year, Mercer County 4-H sent a terrific representative from our program to the conference, Megan. Megan joined a delegation of eleven 4-H members from New Jersey who took part in the conference and learned more than they thought they would.
Megan shares, “My favorite part of this conference was listening to the speakers. They were really cool and informative, and I learned a lot from them!” It is no surprise that Megan feels this way given the diverse group of speakers at the conference, ranging from Time Magazine’s Kid of the Year, Gitanjali Rao, to host of Netflix’s Emily’s Wonder Lab, Emily Calandrelli. The Mercer County 4-H program is happy to encourage the development of our teens by supporting them in experiences such as Ignite. As a long-time participant of the Mercer County 4-H program, Megan continues to develop her leadership skills; she not only attended the Ignite conference, but she also helped to facilitate a session, teaching creative digital art alongside a 4-H professional.
“Ignite helped open me up to things outside my comfort zone. I definitely think I can apply what I learned to my community.” We are proud of Megan and happy she represented Mercer County on the national stage.
