The COVID-19 pandemic not only highlighted the level of food insecurity during the height of the crisis but also drew focus to the ongoing issue of hunger in our country, state, and county. According to Feeding America, 7.4% of New Jersey residents are food insecure, and the rate is higher in Mercer County, at 8.3%. In Mercer County, we are fortunate to have our own food bank, Mercer Street Friends (MSF), which is extremely responsive to addressing residents’ food needs. To help support the work of one of MSF’s member pantries, Arm In Arm, which needed a new refrigerator, FCHS partnered with the American Heart Association to purchase a new refrigerator for their Hudson Street pantry. Arm In Arm was very grateful to receive the refrigerator, to support their ongoing efforts to provide fresh, nutritious food for their clients.
