Located in Stokes State Forest (Sussex County), the L.G. Cook 4-H Camp has offered youth a camp experience in the woods since 1951. This January, Mercer County youth joined youth from four other counties to take part in our Teen Winter Camp weekend. The youth traveled up to the campsite and stayed the weekend. During their time at the camp, our youth met and bonded with 4-H’ers from the other participating counties through team-building activities, hikes, cooking, and recreation time. A total of 36 young people stayed the weekend and connected with their peers throughout the state. As the weekend drew to a close, the teens who attended the weekend camp mentioned how much fun they had, the new friendships made, and the opportunity to be away from the pressures of school and life, even just for a weekend in the woods.
The L.G. Cook 4-H Camp offers week-long camp sessions in the summer for any youth throughout the state ages eight and up. Youth also have the opportunity to join the camp’s long session, which is 18 days long. All sessions include a comprehensive curriculum for the campers mixed with a lot of fun and themed weeks.
