On June 23, FCHS hosted the Mercer County Food Stakeholders’ (MCFS) in-person meeting at our Rutgers Cooperative Extension office. Joan Healy co-facilitates the group with Trenton Health Team. The MCFS supports our region’s response to food insecurity through mapping, data analytics, mobilizing resources, and assisting partners in coordinating their work, with more than 50 organizations participating in the coalition. The meeting included a panel discussion regarding the anticipated impacts of changes in federal funding on food insecurity in Mercer County and how the group can continue to collaborate to improve food security.

In addition, the Trenton Health Team announced the launch of the NJ Statewide Food Insecurity Index, which was funded by the NJ Office of the Food Security Advocate to highlight the intensity of food insecurity throughout New Jersey and to aid organizations in making data-driven decisions to address community food needs. Everyone also enjoyed the opportunity to gather in person and meet with new prospective partners who attended the meeting.
