Earlier this month, Ricardo Kairios, representing Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Mercer County, had the opportunity to present at the National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. The session focused on the intersection of hunger relief and LGBTQIA2S+ health equity, drawing a strong audience of advocates and professionals from across the country.

Ricardo co-presented with fellow public health professional Briana Belcher, MPH, CHES, whose expertise and leadership helped create a dynamic and impactful discussion. Their session was especially timely, taking place just before the conference’s affinity group meetings, which provided an opportunity to highlight the work of the LGBTQIA2S+ Affinity Group.
Together, the presenters shared insights on how inclusive practices and intersectional approaches can strengthen community-based efforts to address food insecurity. We are proud to see Mercer County represented in this national conversation and to help elevate issues of equity and justice in the fight against hunger.
