It’s time! The moment you have all been waiting for – Rutgers Environmental Stewards registration is OPEN! We are accepting registrations for this hybrid program focused on community ways of supporting climate resilience, mitigating climate change, and improving scientific literacy. Rutgers Environmental Stewards is a statewide program, with the classes taught by various Rutgers staff, faculty, and experts in the field from across the state. We have breakout groups on Zoom based on your county, covering local issues regarding the class’s topic, such as food waste or water issues. From January 21 through May 13, we hold classes on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 to 8 pm. Five classes are in person, and the rest are on Zoom. Some in-person classes include field trips to places of interest in the conservation and sustainability field. After completing the class, the future environmental stewards work with their coordinator or a partner to create a project to make positive environmental change in their community. This project has a 60-hour minimum and should allow future stewards to use the skills they gained throughout the program to create real-world change.
In late October, we will highlight these completed projects at a summit where stewards can view each other’s posters, discuss their projects, and make great connections! So, if you are looking for a way to learn more about sustainability topics and make a positive environmental impact in your community, this is the program for you!
