Mercer County 4-H staff are collaborating with 101 teachers at 20 schools throughout the county to facilitate 425 enrichment programs for thousands of students during the course of the school day. The 4-H programs feature hands-on activities in the areas of climate and sustainability, coding, engineering design, nutrition, cultural awareness, mindfulness, teamwork, and communication skills. The majority of these programs are delivered by Mercer County 4-H Program Associates, Sharon Gore, Altaira Bejgrowicz, and Rodrigo Sanchez Hernandez.
During the month of October, Sharon Gore led Cooperative Learning Activities for hundreds of K-5 students in 64 classrooms. Through hands-on challenge initiatives, the students learned to work as a team to accomplish several tasks. These tasks required patience, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and support from all team members. One collaborating teacher noted, “Students really benefited from the idea that working together means sharing ideas, rather than one person leading and directing. Mrs. Gore’s activities were exciting and engaging. Thank you for coming in today.”
