Mercer County 4-H partners with various community organizations to offer after-school STEM programming for youth. This fall, we are working with Urban Promise of Trenton, Children’s Home Society, and Millhill Child and Family Development Center to provide hands-on STEM clubs for the youth these organizations serve. All programs focus on technology and the basics of coding. The programs use hands-on approaches to engage learners in science. Throughout the three different program sites, we engage through the use of robotics, LittleBits, and Makey-Makey kits, along with a modular coding curriculum developed by Apple. The sessions spark interest in young people to pursue technology education and careers.
In addition to serving Trenton youth through these three collaborators, Mercer County 4-H also delivers regular programming at all of the City of Trenton community centers and through their library. We plan to continue collaborating with these and other community organizations to bring hands-on learning to the youth of Mercer County.
