Meredith Melendez held a training for the 2024 Eastern Produce Council (EPC) Leadership Class at their general membership meeting in Edison, NJ. Meredith spoke about the realities of compliance with the Federal Food Safety Modernization Act Produce rule to this class of wholesale produce buyers and sellers representing companies such as Wakefern Food Corp., OrganicGirl, Oppy Transport, Four Seasons Produce, and others. The training allowed participants to have a deeper understanding of produce safety in the supply chain and regulatory expectations at the farm level. The hands-on seminar had participants work in small groups to evaluate farm scenarios and categorize them as high, medium, or low risk with a discussion on appropriate risk reduction strategies.
