In January, Cate Diamond taught a lesson from the “Husky Reads” curriculum to students in Miss Jenn’s class at Joseph F. Cappello School. It was a chilly and rainy day, but the kids brought plenty of enthusiasm and excitement. The students gathered around Cate to learn about the five food groups. After discussing MyPlate, they read the book, “Mouse Mess” by Linnea Riley, pointed out all the foods the mouse in the book was eating, and sorted them into the correct food groups. Next, Cate led the students in a food riddle game. Students correctly guessed the food she described and practiced movements such as toe touches, bunny hops, and arm circles. Then, the students returned to their seats to see, touch, and smell a whole pineapple before sampling sweet, crushed pineapple. Most students loved the pineapple, and many even asked for more!
