Mercer County 4-H teens joined Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Passaic, and Union County teens at the L.G. Cook 4-H Camp for a weekend of camping. The Mercer cohort started their weekend on Friday after school as they traveled up to camp from the Mercer Cooperative Extension Office. After an eventful ride up to camp, our teens joined the rest of the group for team-building activities. On Saturday, the teens took part in hiking, sledding, cooking, crafting, and other recreation. During the evening, the teens learned about birds of prey from a Department of Environmental Protection Fish and Wildlife volunteer. The night ended with an ice cream sundae bar and s’mores by the campfire. Throughout, our teens bonded with and got to know teens from other counties and made new fun memories.
The L.G. Cook 4-H Camp offers week-long summer camp sessions for any youth throughout the state aged eight and up. Youth also have the opportunity to join the camp’s long session, which is 18 days. All sessions include a comprehensive curriculum for the campers mixed with a lot of fun and themed weeks.
