In December, Joan Healy, an FCHS staff member, was invited to participate in a meeting convened by the Office of the Food Security Advocate, which is responsible for coordinating the administration of the State’s food security programs, advocating for residents experiencing food insecurity, and advancing policy to secure greater access to food relief programs in New Jersey. Food stakeholder groups from eight counties shared their current efforts and future goals to address food insecurity in their respective communities. Together with Trenton Health Team (THT), Joan presented this information for the Mercer County Food Stakeholder (MCFS) coalition, which FCHS co-facilitates with THT. In addition to communicating how the MCFS coalition is continuing to make data-driven decisions for the deployment of emergency food resources, Joan presented about the coalition’s future goals, including developing a food action plan to effect longer-term food system changes, with the goal to improve healthy food access for food insecure Mercer County residents.
