Mercer County 4-H, in partnership with Capital Health Systems, has been providing this Safe Sitter Course for over thirty years! Its popularity has grown, and libraries, township recreation centers, Girl Scout Troops, and local faith-based organizations are now also partnering with 4-H to offer the
course. The participants range from sixth graders (parent-helpers) to seniors in high school.
Youth learn the basics of child development, child care, first aid, handling emergencies, and age-appropriate games and activities for children. The participants leave with a sitter’s instructional handbook and certificate of course completion. The class enrollment is limited and often fills to capacity! Participants who complete the class are ready and prepared to begin their babysitting jobs!
