After a hiatus of three long years, the Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County hosted the 2023 Back to the Future Garden Symposium at Stuart Country Day School in Princeton, New Jersey, on Saturday, March 11. Approximately 180 attendees enjoyed breakfast, lunch, a silent auction, and four inspiring lectures. The first lecture from Karen Chapman, who specializes in container and landscape design, focused on resolving design dilemmas. This talk was especially helpful to impulse-buying gardeners who purchase now and plan later. After a short break, Kathryn Homa provided a lesson on plant disease that focused on “then” and “now” plant disease management strategies. During lunch, attendees were delighted to see and converse with each other after so many years apart. The afternoon lectures were highly educational. Joseph Tychonievich provided a stimulating lecture on genetic engineering, followed by Suzanne Wainwright-Evans, who enlightened the audience on biological control (other than ladybugs) and Integrated Pest Management. The event concluded with many lucky winners from the silent auction. Congratulations to all Rutgers Master Gardeners of Mercer County who made this event highly successful!
