This August, twenty families attended a three-morning virtual “Cooking Camp.” The camp was in Spanish and in partnership with the Children’s Home Society Family Success Center South. FCHS provided three days of recipe ingredients to the families, along with handouts and giveaways, including an insulated shopping bag, a bamboo cutting board, and a set of measuring cups and spoons. In addition, our bilingual FCHS Nutrition Educator led discussions on how families can incorporate more fruits and vegetables into their meals, save money when shopping, and have more peaceful mealtimes! Family members of all ages took part in activities including cutting, cooking, and mashing cauliflower for the Garlic Mashed “Potatoes”, straining and mashing cannellini beans to make a Creamy Bean Dip and mixing and spooning dough onto baking sheets to make Banana Oat Chocolate Chip Cookies!
