Last month, Ricardo Kairios from The Rutgers Department of Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) participated in Bite the Power, a gathering hosted by the New Jersey Office of the Food Security Advocate. The event brought together school district leaders, community-based organizations, principals, food and nutrition service directors, school business officials, and other key partners committed to improving student access to healthy meals.

The goal of the gathering was to empower schools across New Jersey to increase participation in school meal programs and ensure that more students receive nourishing food during the school day. A highlight of the event was the engaging discussion with junior students from West Side High School, who shared their firsthand perspectives on school meals and offered thoughtful ideas on how to improve access to fresh, healthy foods within their school communities.
FCHS is proud to be part of this statewide movement to strengthen food access, elevate student voice, and support healthier outcomes for all New Jersey youth.
